Do Friends Really Know Best?
My Friends' Thoughts: You're Single + My Friend is Single = Lets match them up!
2003
My first set up was in university. My friend Lee thought, 'Hey! You're Korean! My friend is Korean! I'm going to hook you up!' . I met him at his birthday, this was my first introduction to an awkward set up. Nice guy, good looking.. Was studying acting! He always wanted to meet my friends. As if I was the introduction to the Korean World..... We lost touch and he moved to Vancouver to pursue his career!
Fast Forward 2014, more than a decade later
You would think your friends would take their when they hook you up with someone. I have been set up twice this year; both dates did not go well. Apparently I need to stop drinking on my dates, but the reason I drink so much is to keep myself entertained and interested!
First Date:
I don't know if it's because I was so excited, but I ended up showing up to the date an 1hour early. When I told my date I was almost there he called me to tell me the date was an hour later. I get there an hour early, what am I supposed to do but drink? So, as I was waiting I envisioned my date going well. The date did go well, but the guy was NOT interesting AT ALL?! I'm not saying I'm an exciting person, but at least I can keep myself entertained. I should've known better than to trust this friend to set me with a guy that is suitable for me. The best part is she has never met this guy, so it's through word of mouth.
I wonder.. If guy says we should do this again if they don't mean it!? I'm sure he felt the date was dry, but said we should do this again?!
Second Date:
This date I thought was going to be interesting because of the friend who set it up. I was 5 mins late for the date, the traffic was unpredictable that day. I messaged him telling him I was running late. At the scheduled time he messages me, "Where are you?" at this point I was in the parking lot looking for a spot. First of all, when a girl says she's running late, don't write "Where are you?" it makes you sound annoyed and plus I'm driving!! I can't text back. Second, when a girl is running late take a seat, don't wait for her by the door. When I got in, we said hi and of course I apologized and he just rolled his eyes and followed the waitress.
He wasn't that interesting either.. Someone who wanted to become a cop, but couldn't pass something... I forget, I'm sure the story was interesting, but he wasn't.. Therefore I drank more. He tole my friend! Well, he got a lot more interesting after he kept drinking too! Then to find out he doesn't really know my friend, they went to high school, but never talked. Only recently did they start talking! Classic You're single + My friend is single = I will hook you up.
You tell your friends the type of guys you want, they get some of it.. One thing common in these blind dates were that they didn't know the guy! That is why online dating is encouraged. BUT the only problem is there are sooo many guys out there and how do you filter them all??
