Dates are like Interviews...

Image
Dates are like interviews, you think it went well and they don't call back for a second one... That was the case with my Tinder Date number two. He was a Chinese guy (my first Chinese date), he also chatted with my friend (Do friends really know best? second date hook up friend.. Lets call her HY). It turns out this guy is a avid Tinder user, he even used it in Hong Kong (he was only there for a week!); perhaps it's an only child thing.. Anyways, first we went to Joey's (by Eaton Centre) for a drink, it was my first time at Joey's it's a pretty happening place! Then we walked over to a place in China Town for dumplings called Yummy Yummy (located 79 Huron St). I tried mutton for the first time.. I did not like it! I would recommend the pork and chive dumpling (they are all handmade)! I was quite excited because I have never met a guy who loves dumplings as much as I do! Then we took a cab to a lounge called Carbon. It is a beautiful lounge with classic loft feel...

Douche Dressed As A Nice Guy!!

So, off Tinder I was talking to a really nice guy. Older, good job lived in the city. Great conversation the night before. The next day I was working late and I thought, Hey! This guy lives in the city and I have a taxi chit why don't I meet him for dinner and drinks? During our Tinder conversation, we were just talking about work and ourselves. So, I ask him that night if he wanted to meet. He said sure. He was the first guy I have ever met on Tinder/Online/This was my first blind date set up by me! I met him down the street from where I work. He was late, but I forgave him seeing so he lives on the other side of Downtown. He said it was going to be worth while. When he gets there he gives me 2 CD's. He burned a CD for me.. At that point I was trying to determine whether that was weird or sweet. I mean, who listens to CD's these days? All our songs are on our phones or IPODs.. Anyways, I ordered wine while waiting for him. When he arrived we were just talking shop, h...

Do Friends Really Know Best?

My Friends' Thoughts: You're Single + My Friend is Single = Lets match them up! 2003 My first set up was in university. My friend Lee thought, 'Hey! You're Korean! My friend is Korean! I'm going to hook you up!' . I met him at his birthday, this was my first introduction to an awkward set up. Nice guy, good looking.. Was studying acting! He always wanted to meet my friends. As if I was the introduction to the Korean World..... We lost touch and he moved to Vancouver to pursue his career! Fast Forward 2014, more than a decade later You would think your friends would take their  when they hook you up with someone. I have been set up twice this year; both dates did not go well. Apparently I need to stop drinking on my dates, but the reason I drink so much is to keep myself entertained and interested! First Date:  I don't know if it's because I was so excited, but I ended up showing up to the date an 1hour early. When I told my date I was almost ...

Going the Distance

Due to my lack of dating experience, this was the first time I realized just because the person is great on paper, doesn't mean he's great. A lot of the times there is a reason why a guy "great on paper" , but still single. But why am I still single? I guess we will get into that later. Anyways... So, this was another Korean Mama Drama set up, but this time this guy was: My mom's sister's (my aunt who lives out West) church member's son! So anyways, this guy was 32 and I was 29. He emailed me first, but because it was an awkward situation he wrote a light introduction email (green flag) . From that point on we were writing LONG emails everyday and bbming and eventually talking on the phone. We talked about meeting and he suggested we meet in Montreal during a 3 day music festival. I said sure, but prior to making my friends spend money so I can meet a guy, I told him I would like to meet him first. So, Canada Day long weekend... I made my trip out We...

Men are like coffee??

Image
During my university days I was very ambitious, like most people once I graduated I thought the world was going to be my clam shell and I was the pearl. The picture attached used to be my coffee order everyday! Quad Grande, 1 Pump Sugar-Free Vanilla, Non-fat, No Foam, Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks. Back in those days this cup cost me $4.27. NOW, it's $7.25 (luckily I had a free Starbucks reward)!!! I had always thought if I drank bouji coffee, dressed in name brand clothes and go to the gym everyday, I would attract a guy similar (now they're called metros). Like the saying if you throw it out to the universe it will come back (something like that). A guy who has money, therefore has a good job and was attractive were my main criteria. I needed all that fluff, very shallow! what and how people perceived me was important to me!! As I got older and as my coffee drinking buds have changed (simple: Triple Tall Americano, but still from Starbucks), I realized men are like c...

Korean Mom - Korean Dating

As mentioned before I am Korean and those Korean dramas got it all wrong! The nice girl doesn't always get the guy.. In reality the bitchy ones always get the guy.. Anyways, what does it mean to be Korean? It means I need to follow the following milestones Babysit siblings at age 8 (check) Work at the store at age 10 (check) Graduate University (check) Get married  Have children Help parents with finances I seem to be stuck at the finding someone and getting married part. To help speed that aspect of my life, my mom decided to send me off on various blind dates. Because I can't remember them all I am going to group them in this one blog. Accountant This guy was nice, good job, and shy.. He is an accountant for a major car industry. But soooo boring.. to the point where I pretty much drank a bottle of wine at dinner. Which isn't surprising because I can do that on a regular basis. But when you first meet someone you don't want them to know you're a bor...

It's Going Down, I'm Yelling TINDER!!!

So I joined Tinder.. NOT knowing it was a hook up app...... I was first introduced to Tinder by my friend over Thanksgiving Dinner. She told me about her friend who had gone on some dates through it. She told me it was a great app because they show you guys who are in your area... She failed to tell me it's mainly for hooking up. I couldn't download that app because at the time I had a work cell phone. Fast Forward January Another friend (same friend as the second blind date set up from, Do Friends Really Know Best? ) told me to download it because it's better than online dating.. It's a lot quicker, less bs, and easier. So with my new phone I downloaded the app. At first it was fun.. It's like a game, hot or not. And if a guy you say is hot and they like you as well you win! and the app asks if you want to play again? Let me share some of the characters I have encountered: The First Message I have received from Tinder: Guy: Hey, I think you're cute.. ...

About Me

It’s hard being single these days (especially when all your friends are in a relationship). The Rom-Com had it all wrong! A girl does not see a guy from across the room and he does not approach her.. Nor does the best friend suddenly realize he had always loved his girl BFF. What’s worse is that I am Korean, the Rom-Coms have NOTHING on Korean Dramas, where the guy ALWAYS falls for the “nice” girl and the bitchy girl gets shafted. About Me I am a late bloomer. When I was in high school about to pick my university I chose to study psychology (but ended up with a Honours Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science). What I should have done is taken Business (but at that time I thought business was entrepreneurship, not knowing there were other aspects to business). I went to Waterloo for 2 years studying Psychology and Sociology. I did so poorly I was about to go on probation. Tell my parents that I was getting kicked out of school for a year? Yeah right! So I did the next bes...
